Beginners ESL
This class targets those who have little or some English background and would like to improve in their listening and speaking skills in English. Individuals will learn common phrases that can be used daily. Examples are: learn how to introduce oneself, ask for directions, talk about daily activities, and useful vocabulary. There will be exercises for students to practice speaking and listening to each other in English. The class is meant to be in a comfortable environment so that conversations in English can strike up at any time.

Intermediate ESL
The Intermediate ESL class meets twice a week and is geared for those individuals who are looking to improve not only their verbal skills but also comprehension, vocabulary, definition of words/phrases. In addition, the use of various idioms and their meanings are studied. The primary goal is to provide a comfortable atmosphere in which individuals learn English without the fear of ridicule. The texts used in class include various short stories since they provide ample opportunity for discussion, interaction as well as pronunciation guidance when the stories are read.

Intermediate ESL - Bible Study
This intermediate level class meets once per week and uses the bible as the main subject of discussion. Students who are interested to learn more about the bible join this ESL group. The teacher introduces historical and cultural information about the biblical context to help better understand it. Time is spent reading the bible while the discussion focuses on understanding the bible and relating it to present day life. In addition to studying the bible passages, some time is given to introducing useful idioms and other English material to help the ESL learner.

Advanced ESL
The weekly Advanced ESL class is for anyone who is looking for a friendly place to practice their English and who is beyond the Intermediate level. The texts used for the past year include heart-warming stories, chapters of a novel, a philosophical text and numerous humorous pieces. These provide the basis for discussion and the context for introducing vocabulary, idioms and usage. There is ample opportunity for interactions and pronunciation practice. The variety of activities means that learners of different styles will find it enjoyable.

Beginner Conversational ESL
This class meets weekly and focuses on discussion and conversation at a beginner level. The teacher leads a discussion about life in Canada and other relevant topics. In addition, special holidays and festivals like New Years, Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. are discussed. Group discussions also include questions about Canadian culture and traditions. Students are encouraged to share opinions and ideas in a friendly small-group setting. Students from all cultures are welcome and contribute to the small group conversation. At certain times in the year, celebrations are held that include food, games and fellowship. If you are a beginner, please don’t feel shy but just come and join us!

Canadian Culture Conversational
This class targets individuals at an intermediate to advanced level who want to learn more about our Canadian culture. Classes focus on the interests of the students as well as topics like current news, special holidays, Canadian history and cultural explanations. Students have an opportunity to explore their own questions about their new culture in a class that is non-threatening and friendly. Students will learn about giving presentations to small groups and have opportunities to prepare and present one to the class.

Job Preparation Workshop
This class focuses on preparing for work in the Canadian marketplace. Taught by an experienced business professional, students will gain skills necessary for applying to jobs in Canada. The topics of study include resumes, cover letter writing, interview preparation, business in Canada, self employment, etc. Students also have the opportunity to make suggestions for class discussion based on their interests and needs. This class aims to provide practical and relevant assignments for working in Canada.

Welcome to Canada
Are you new to Canada? Do you need help getting started in your new life here? Life in Canada is full of surprises, twists and turns and we aim to help you transition to new life here. It can be difficult to get settled and oriented in a new place and to the point where you feel comfortable here. Let us help you get started!
We offer a 6 week course that covers lots of helpful and practical information for settling in Canada. Week 1 focuses on ‘Canada’ and the introduction of this great land. Week 2 concentrates on ‘Community’ and what it looks like in Canada. Week 3 discusses ‘Collapsing’ the walls and barriers that exist for newcomers in this country. During week 4 we will discuss ‘Caring’ for every area of your life while in week 5 we will focus on ‘Connecting’ and building relationships that will help your new life. Finally, during week 6 we will have a time of ‘Celebration’ together.
